Focus on Super Fight Champions: Zhao Zilong

on 14 April 2013 Tags: RUFF, Super Fight

Zhao Zilong has lived up to his name same as an ancient legendary general in Chinese history. Those who are familiar with Chinese fighting circle will never forget the memories Zhao Zilong has left in their minds:   his leg whip, films he starred in and his numerous honors ——approaching the terminal of his career, he earned the most perfect end with his own efforts.  Just like the other hero "Zhao Zilong" to defeat foes in one after another battle, he crossed hurdles all the way and turned from the all-powerful "Sanda King" into one of the first Chinese MMA championship belt winners.

“I had been fighting for my dream of championship and the belt since I joined RUFF in 2011.”  He recalled this journey full of emotion. “To get the belt, I gave up a lot and paid a lot!  But it was all worth it when I held the belt in hand!”  The glory did not come easily indeed to him. Due to his family and many other reasons, he had to say goodbye to fighting temporarily for a long period.  Injuries and the growing age, as if an invisible hand gradually pushed him far away from his dream. However, He overcame all difficulties with insistence and perseverance, and eventually made himself appear in the Super Fight.

When talking about the exciting matchup, he firstly affirmed the success of his strategy:"Li Jixiang, who also used to be a Sanda fighter, shares common technical style with me.  We had met once before but I lost in points after a three-round fierce battle, from which I summarized my weaknesses and analyzed his advantages and disadvantages. Then I planned for how to do if I face him in the Super Fight.  I played the ground skills that I had practiced for three to four years at a critical time, and finally I won!"  a Sanda veteran won the most important competition in his career with ground techniques to show that he had broken the ice of Sanda games and become a mature, all-round MMA fighter.

However, all brilliance may come to an end one day.  “I cannot afford injuries anymore and have to give up. I look forward to everyone’s kind understanding and support!”  answered Zhao Zilong when being asked about his future career plan.   To this shy introverted man, if fighting is his deeply beloved career, family whereas takes up his whole life.  Most of the prize money he won with blood and sweat was contributed to his family.  “I firstly paid off all debts borrowed from my friends when my parents were hospitalized.  Rest was used for the down payment of an apartment.  It’s important to settle down and solve the most practical basic necessities of life for my parents and myself!”  His gradual withdrawal from career is closely related to his beloved family.  “I had been fighting in the arena for 13 years, during which my family was always heavily concerned about me.  So I would like to spend more time with my parents and let them enjoy their old age!”

At the end of our interview, Zhao Zilong extended his gratitude to many people around: his mentor, parents, teammates and RUFF, which provided him with a brand new development platform.  He said he would not be satisfied with what he had achieved by now: “I won’t be addicted to enjoyment with the prize money. I won’t let my personal value be submerged in the money. I’ll continue to work hard and set a new goal for myself.  I’ll fight for my next dream!”  Next dream? Exactly! When we come to a crossroads on the life trip, a new dream and a new goal will drive us to move on.  Let’s bless Zhao Zilong a smooth journey towards his new dream.
