Focus on Super Fight Champions: Zhang Meixuan

on 15 April 2013 Tags: RUFF, Super Fight

When you are faced with this shy, handsome young man who likes singing and shopping around with his girlfriend during leisure time, you’ll never believe he is the winner of first Chinese MMA 57kg championship belt.  Zhang Meixuan, a native of Guizhou, is now trained in Xi’an Sport University under the tutelage of Chinese famous fighting coach Zhao Xuejun. This 23-year-old youngster will show amazing explosive power and shiny skills as long as he steps into the cage.  He ran into the third matchup against his old enemy Liu Pingyuan in the Super Fight, before which he had tasted both success and loss.

“I think he is an excellent fighter.  I had been worried about being locked by him so I especially strengthened training on ground skills during preparation.  I would never imagine that I could lock him in the Super Fight.  That’s really out of my expectation. ” said Zhang Meixuan when talking about his opponent and that thrilling final. He is correct.  Liu Pingyuan boasts very strong ground skills.  But Zhang Meixuan is not a fighter who always follows routine. “” I didn’t study specific tactics against my opponent before the fight as other people did.  I just trained myself hard every day and tried to learn more as well as to make substantial improvements.  Actually I seldom plan for how to behave in the cage.  I always adjust myself to changing circumstances.”  Resourceful wisdom and hard training helped him succeed eventually.  “I nearly got locked by him twice but managed to escape with what I had learnt.  But I was punched several times by him when we fought on feet at the very beginning. I think I should behave better at that time.  I was too relaxed after all.”

Perhaps it was just such relaxed state that escorted him all the way to success.  “I had never thought I would become the final champion.  I never think too much before each fight but just focus on how to behave well.  I faced quite a few strong opponents in RUFF, like Amu-RiJiRiGaLa, Liu Pingyuan and Shang Zhifa, a fighting expert indeed.  And my RUFF journey was once suspended for some reason.  When I returned into the cage, I really didn’t expect myself to stick to the end.”

Nobody could imagine how much this humble young man had suffered in the day-to-day training. “Maybe only my family knows clearly the pains I have tasted. I once thought of giving up when got too tired in training.  I called back home frequently and each time burst into tears.  But the support from my family and many friends encouraged me to insist on.” With the spirit not to give up, Zhang Meixuan finally achieved fruitful results.  As for the prize money, he expressed that he would treasure this fortune won back with blood and sweat. “I will make reasonable arrangements and won’t spend extravagantly.  I’ll buy an apartment first to settle down. I’ll also give some to my family as they need it.”

We should mention the charity he has done recently when talking about his family. A well named after him is being explored in his hometown, a village in Guizhou Province.  “It’s not worth mentioning. In that poor rural county without water supply, fire accidents often happen and villagers always run into difficulties in drinking water.  I donated a little money to dig a well as soon as heard the news.” He spoke of his good deed in a relaxed and calm tone just like talking about his success in the arena.  “Many friends helped me when I had a difficult time. So I would make every effort to help others when they are in need.”

Undoubtedly, this kind-hearted fighter has become a rising star in Chinese fighting world. He said he would continue to fight in the cage for the future. To Zhang Meixuan, the championship belt is a beautiful sail set for a long voyage.  We believe more beautiful scenery is waiting for him on the other bank.
